Visit Ashe County NC for a Hometown Christmas Tree Lighting
If you’re looking for a place to go where the Christmas spirit rivals that of the North Pole, without the temperature, of course, West Jefferson is the place to be! Grab a cup of hot cocoa or cider, join in on the caroling, and gather with your family around a Fraser Fir Christmas tree as the lights are turned on for the first time!
The Hometown Christmas Tree Lighting is scheduled for Friday, November 27th, from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm at the Backstreet Park in Downtown West Jefferson. Come enjoy the magic of Christmas as you meet Santa and his elves, and be transported back to your childhood, a time when anything was possible. Santa and his crew will arrive with candy in hand in an old-fashioned fire engine, which is sure to be a hit with children of all ages. Children can even take a magical ride in the fire truck with Santa! Don’t miss this great opportunity to experience the child-like joy of Christmas!
Arrive a little early for the Hometown Christmas Tree Lighting, and participate in the competition to end all competitions. This year marks the 100th year since West Jefferson was established, and as part of the celebration and a nod to 1915 style, the West Jefferson Centennial Commission and Cutter’s Edge Salon are hosting the Centennial Beard and Mustache Contest. Judging begins at 4:45 pm, and prizes will be awarded at 5:15 pm. Awards will go to those with the best overall beard, the longest beard, best overall mustache, most unusual mustache, and the best overall facial hair combination.
