Ashe Memorial Hospital

Healthcare is an important element to consider when you are evaluating life in a new place.  Ashe Memorial Hospital is a full service hospital that offers a full range of services for Ashe County, NC.

Ashe Memorial Hospital was first established in 1941 and is located in Jefferson, NC.  After many improvements and extensive renovations, the hospital  has grown to a large size and has over 76 beds, surgical facilities and employs numerous specialists and professionals in the medical field. Ashe Memorial Hospital is the county’s only hospital and provides emergency, short-term and long term care for patients.

The hospital has completed renovations of the following areas: Monitored Bed Unit, which includes the latest technology, nursing station on the second floor of the hospital and the Wilma Vannoy Birthing Center. In January 2011, the Mountain Family Care Center opened in its new location on the campus of the hospital.  The MFCC offers afterhours care all week long.

Ashe Memorial Hospital continues to bring new technology and treatment expertise to Ashe County residences.  A new consultant for the treatment of stroke started on February 12, 2010. Ashe Memorial Hospital (AMH) in Jefferson has partnered to bring the physicians from the Comprehensive Stroke Center and Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center to Ashe County. They won't be coming in person, however, but will be able to talk with and examine patients from Baptist Medical Center  in Winston-Salem using the InTouch RP-7 robot stationed at AMH. The robot, controlled by one of the five members of the stroke faculty at Baptist Medical Center, stands a little taller than four feet and has a video monitor that allows the patient to see the doctor. On top of the monitor are two cameras that allow the doctor to see the patient and their surroundings: a wide angle lens that allows the physician to see the entire room a patient is in or a close-angle lens that allows the physician to examine a patient's pupils to see how their eyes move.  The goal of the Telestroke Network is to allow them facilitate stroke expertise outlaying communities so that patients would have more rapid access to the kinds of treatments.
