Ashe County Tree in the White House!

Every year The White House decorates 30 live trees with decorations throughout the house. The main Christmas tree is the one that adorns the Blue Room which travels to Washington from across the country. This year makes the 7th year that a tree from Ashe County has been selected for the Blue Room.

This year's tree was grown by Rusty and Beau Estes of Peak Creek Farms, located in Jefferson, NC. It was an 18 1/2 foot Frasier fir. On Saturday, November 17th, the Estes family gathered with community leaders, NC Extension Service Staff and dignitaries including North Carolina Commissioner of Agriculture Steve Troxler, and US House of Representative, Virginia Foxx for the cutting of the tree at the farm.

The tree was then loaded into a special semi-truck wrapped in a pattern to announce that a North Carolina Fraser Fir was inside. This truck drove through the middle of West Jefferson NC in the Christmas Parade and over to the Ashe County Courthouse in
Jefferson, North Carolina for the celebration ceremony.
