Tweetsie Railroad - Boone NC

The Appalachian Mountains is host one of the most illustrious and adored attractions in Western North Carolina - Tweetsie Railroad. It gets its name from a nickname which was given to the steam engine by locals who, becoming used to the steam locomotives high pitched "tweet, tweet" whistle, dudded the railroad the "Tweetsie".

Tweetsie Railroad  is North Carolina's first wild - west family theme park. The theme park includes an arcade, shooting gallery, petting zoo, picnic areas, live entertainment, gem mining, games, and rides in the Country Fair. The park even has its own "Tweetsie Jail" on Main Street.

Tweetsie offers an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to ride three miles aboard the Steam Engine 12, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This was one of the original engines in the rail service used to connect Boone, North Carolina with Johnson City, Tennessee.

In addition, the Tweetsie Railroad hosts seasonal events. Two of the most popular are July 4th Fireworks and the Halloween Festival, which includes scary adventures like the Ghost Train and the Haunted House.

Tweetsie Railroad is located on 321 between Boone and Blowing Rock, NC. Many people travel the Blue Ridge Parkway and you get off at mile post 291, Boone exit.  The theme park is open May through October.
