Biography

I am proud to say that Ashe County will be my lifelong home. Blessed to have grown up here on a large family farm with parents believing that faith in God and hard work would take you far in life. I planted my roots here to carry on that philosophy. Those life lessons have made me the honest and dependable person I am today. Besides having a deep appreciation for my hometown, I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit that lead me to choose real estate as a career.

My goal is to provide you with an agent that has integrity and is knowledgeable. A real estate investment is the biggest decision you will ever make. You can make that decision with more confidence when you trust the person you are working with. My extensive knowledge of the area and quality customer service can definitely be counted on in obtaining the property of your dreams. It is my desire that after working with me that you consider me a friend more than just your realtor.

It is the relationships that I have developed through my life here and my real estate career that makes me love getting up and going to work each day. I enjoy what I do best, bringing buyers and sellers together so they can experience the good life these beautiful mountains have to offer.

My years of experience speaks for itself. You don’t work 20+ years at a job you don’t enjoy and are not successful at. My local knowledge and my involvement in the community helps me have the tools I need to be the Realtor you need to find just the right home or investment property you are looking for.  I have served on the local Chamber Board, the High Country Association of Realtors Board and had experience in helping revitalize downtown West Jefferson.

On a personal note, I enjoy spending time with my two kids, Stephanie and Chad, Chad’s wife Tara, and my four grandchildren, Kelsea, Morgan, Ryder and Saylor. Being able to enjoy the mountain air by hiking, boating, and having get-togethers with friends and family, as well as dancing are some of my favorite things to do in my spare time.

Testimonials

My wife and I have known Ellen since 2003 when she sold us our mountain retreat. Since then we have called on her for selling a condo and for purchasing land. In all of our transactions, Ellen has always professionally represented our interests and has given us critical advice when needed. She is knowledgeable about the real-estate in the mountain area, caring about client concerns, courteous, extremely professional and eager to assist in anyway possible. We have enjoyed doing business with her and have recommended her to other family members and our friends who have also enjoyed her representation. We would consider her a personal friend and will look forward to doing business with her again. Andy O’Sullivan & Bonnie O’Sullivan

Ellen was professional throughout all aspects of the sale. She handled every detail with competence and punctuality. She found the answers to all of our questions, returned calls promptly, and kept us informed on every issue. She worked toward the highest and best interests of all parties involved. We feel blessed to have had Ellen represent both the sellers and the buyers in a very successful transaction! Bill Sale & Ronda Sale

Ellen Phipps has been an answer to prayer and a true blessing to me and my family as we have searched for a home in Ashe County. When I met Ellen I was immediately impressed with her enthusiasm to help us find a house in spite of our unique situation, trying to fit 3 generations into one home. Ellen persevered and in fact, our first meeting to look at homes was literally over the river and through several inches of snow! As our search continued from winter, through spring, summer and into fall, Ellen was always encouraging, patient and ready to go look at houses, even at a moments notice. Most importantly, Ellen was always honest in advising me about the properties we saw. Thankfully, a couple who knew Ellen asked for her advice about selling their home and she realized it would work for us. I can truthfully say that Ellen has not only been my Realtor, she has become a friend. Ellen is a true representative of what makes Ashe County a wonderful place to live. It is not only the natural beauty of the land, but the very special people, like her that live her that makes Ashe County, home sweet home. Clanton Williams & Susan Williams

Tara Phipps

Hi! I’m Tara. I moved to the High Country at 12 years of age and immediately fell in love with the area. Truly, and what’s not to love? We have 4 beautiful seasons, each magical in their own way, the New River, one of the oldest on the planet, and of course, our amazing mountain vistas. There is so much to explore and appreciate with every direction. After graduating from high school here in Ashe County, I moved to the Raleigh area for college. After graduating I came right back. It’s impossible to stay away! I knew I had to return home to the mountain’s.

I worked as a Veterinary Technician for several years (I love animals!) then I stayed home with my 2 older children and helped my husband run his business. Next, I went to work at ASU where I loved helping students and working with their families. I then became the office manager at A1 Mountain Realty. After almost 2 years of being the office manager I couldn’t put it off any longer. I had to help people directly with their real estate needs. It makes me so happy to help a family find their perfect home, or someone find their dream vacation home. I have extensive knowledge of the High Country. My goal is to make every client a client for life. I will act as an advocate for my clients and take the trust they place in me very seriously.

It has been a long-time dream of mine to work in the Real Estate Industry. My dad is a contractor, so I grew up around the construction business, which helped me develop a love of houses at an early age. Whether you’re looking for a 1900’s farmhouse, a vacation cabin, a place on the river, a property at either one of our 2 golf courses in the county or anywhere in between I would love to work with you!

I strongly believe that it is my duty to represent clients’ to the best of my ability and also educate them throughout every step of the process with clear information and market insight, so my clients are informed to make the best possible decision. For buyers, I will listen to what is important to them as I have experience to know which neighborhoods and home features will best meet their lifestyle needs. For sellers, I take an individual approach, knowing that each home has special features that will appeal to the ideal buyer. Sellers’ properties are marketed using the latest online tools, including social media, various websites, and traditional print media.

In my spare time I love to watch my 2 older kids play sports. My daughter does soccer, travel basketball and track. My son does football, basketball and travel baseball. My youngest daughter is her siblings biggest fan. I enjoy planting flowers and hiking with our dogs. I live in West Jefferson with my husband Chad and our three kids, Morgan, Ryder and Saylor.

Hi, I’m Beverly. Ashe County has been my home all my life, I love our little corner of North Carolina. I have been blessed to live in a few different places due to my past career in Management, but Ashe County is home. I’m a Broker at A-1 Mountain Realty, where I develop working relationships with clients to help them find the home or property they are looking for, including emailing client’s different property searches, spending dedicated time with clients or even facetiming a walk through when requested. My goal is to help you make it your home too. Whether you are looking for a year-round home, investment property, or just a little get-a-way.
I’ve worked in sales at Freedom Homes/Oakwood Homes and was in the Top 75 sales people in the nation with Freedom Homes/Oakwood Homes, and I have worked in many different positions in Walmart over a 13+ year period from Receiving Associate to Photo Center Manager, different Assistant Manager positions, and Co-Manager of 2 other stores in Virginia and NC. I also worked in management with Subway restaurants for about 3 ½ years when I moved back home to Ashe. After raising my 3 girls I was able to go after my dream and become a Realtor.

In all the positions I’ve held I’ve developed meaningful and long relationships with a multitude of people, and I look forward to working with each of my clients and making a great relationship with each one. A real estate investment is a big investment and I want to make sure you are getting exactly what you want.

For those that are looking to sell their real estate whether it be a home or land I will be happy to help you and make sure you get the best of our marketing. We market our properties using the latest online tools, including posting on our social medias, our website along with a variety of others. We maintain two large display boards in our office windows with hold customized cards for each property we serve. We also have our brochures in multiple locations around the county to help tourists and locals see what we have to offer.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my 3 daughters Julia, Lauren and Carrie, & their families…. my grandkids Lucas, Conner, Gracie, Kolten, Ryker and Aspen along with my Sheepadoodle Beau. I enjoy driving and seeing the beauty all around us, usually a long ride in a day’s time, relaxing on the porch, concerts, and even skydiving. I’ve only done it once, but it was the best feeling in the air, while looking over the curvatures of the earth as far as you could see. Yep, you can do that in a plane, but it’s just not the same.
